Incretin

In one lineGut hormones that raise insulin after a meal.

Definition

The family of gut hormones — GLP-1 and GIP — released after food that tell the pancreas to release insulin and the brain that a meal has been eaten. Incretin-based drugs copy or amplify them. 'Incretin mimetic' is the older name for a GLP-1 receptor agonist.
