Claimed effect · FOXO4-DRI

Does FOXO4-DRI help with fitness, fur density and renal function?

D
Grade D — no human evidenceAnimal only · effect size: large
Short answerNo human evidence. As of 23 September 2026, only animal only exist for FOXO4-DRI for fitness, fur density and renal function. Baar and colleagues report selective clearance of senescent cells and functional restoration in fast-ageing and naturally aged mice, and protection against chemotherapy toxicity.

What the studies show

Baar and colleagues report selective clearance of senescent cells and functional restoration in fast-ageing and naturally aged mice, and protection against chemotherapy toxicity.

Animal studies, cell studies, or anecdotes only. This is where almost every viral peptide sits. Promising and proven are different words for a reason.

In context

FOXO4-DRI is a cell-penetrating peptide designed to pry the protein FOXO4 away from p53 inside senescent cells, causing those cells to die. In a 2017 Cell paper it restored fitness, fur density and kidney function in aged and prematurely ageing mice. That is the entire evidence base: no human trial, no human safety data, and no regulatory filing. Products sold under the name are unlicensed research chemicals.

FOXO4-DRI is not approved (preclinical). Legal status differs by country — see the regulation section or the jurisdiction pages.

Questions

Is FOXO4-DRI proven to help with fitness, fur density and renal function?
No. There is no human evidence for it (Animal only); the claim rests on animal or cell studies and LYO grades it D.
What studies are behind the grade?
Baar and colleagues report selective clearance of senescent cells and functional restoration in fast-ageing and naturally aged mice, and protection against chemotherapy toxicity.
Is FOXO4-DRI approved for this?
No. FOXO4-DRI is not approved (preclinical); it is not an approved medicine for any indication in the jurisdictions LYO covers.
